The 3D Model of the Professional Field of the Feldenkrais Method

Worldwide, Feldenkrais Practitioners apply the Feldenkrais Method very individually but nonetheless within certain social frames of their environment. Over the years, the International Feldenkrais Federation (IFF) has been observing and investigating the emergence of Dr. Moshé Feldenkrais’ pioneer work into a broad variety of activities ranging from high professional application in a Feldenkrais setting to a more or less avocation (hobby). To refer to and describe this particular situation of Feldenkrais Practitioners working, the IFF established the term of the “Professional Field of the Feldenkrais Method”. The word “profession” proved to be too narrow or misleading especially as its meanings differ all over the world. Over a longer period (1999 - 2005) the term professional field has been developed into a concept within the IFF Academy Committee and especially enriched during IFF Assemblies 2003 in Soesterberg/NL and 2005 in Berlin/D. In the last year this Professional Field concept has been further developed into a three-dimensional Model designed as a computer animation.

• You can illustrate and becoming aware of your personal and professional development and identity as a Feldenkrais practitioner.
• You can detect the current social situation and extent of professionalisation in your environment (Feldenkrais member organisation or society);
• You can understand how the Professional Field of the Feldenkrais Method can be seen in a constructive conjunction with development, education & Feldenkrais Training matters.

Thus the 3D Model of the Professional Field interlinks individual biographies and social frames of references for the Feldenkrais Method’s application in the world. The 3 D Model, available in 6 languages, is accompanied by an introduction text how to use it. It will be introduced at the IFF Assembly in May 2006 with respect to participants’ personal perspective as Practitioners and the Agenda topics.
